π️OM MANI PADME HUM
Good morning, dear reader. Today I want to share with you this wonderful mantra...
"Om Mani Padme Hum"
One of the most well-known mantras in the world—often referred to in Western regions as the "Mantra of Compassion."
This mantra is also believed to offer protection against negative influences and any signs of illness.
Pronouncing the final syllable correctly is very important. As we can see, the written form can be a bit tricky. The correct sound should be somewhere between the "j" and the "h" in English, more similar to a soft "g". To pronounce it properly, place your tongue on the upper palate, close to your front teeth. If done correctly, it should sound something like this:
Om mani peme jung, ooom mani peme jung, om mani peme jung.
This is how the mantra is traditionally and continuously repeated.
The Dalai Lama recommends focusing on the meaning of the mantra while reciting it, as this makes it more powerful and effective.
It’s good to remember that the mantra has the same effect whether it is read, spoken, or visualized in writing or engraving.
A common recommendation from Buddhists is that when you are feeling anxious, simply listen to the mantra and close your eyes.
The literal meaning of this mantra is: “Oh Jewel in the Lotus.”
Its symbolic meaning, however, goes much deeper—it is not just about repetition, but about the unity of word, mind, and body embodied in the six sacred syllables.
In other words, the purpose of reciting this mantra is to achieve full control over our spirit.
Om mani padme hum, Om mani padme hum, Om mani padme hum.
